Contentment has been on my mind a lot lately. I feel inundated with people’s various ways of ‘bettering’ — ‘cold plunge before breathwork’, ‘laser it off’, ‘don’t eat amino acids after 4:30’, ‘wait… you don’t have a somatic healer’. This is just one demographic. Which archetype should we do next?
Anyway, how do I toe the line of ambition, and inspiration without loss of present contentment or authentic choice? We don’t spend time with each other, we spend time looking at each other and then looking like each other. I don’t pretend to think this is a novel take on the current vibes of life, just some thoughts for you. I would suggest listening to this too, because Ezra obviously discusses this much better.
Steele Pilates — I feel as though there’s either solid-core level torture or (disclaimer: no hate <3) NY Pilates vibes. Steele’s mat class makes me feel like I definitely did something yesterday, but I can also do something today.
Thea — I love a dip more than most things. Theadora and Miss Ada’s bakery sibling is Thea. You should go.
Hudson and Wilder — Apologies for the many Dumbo recs, but it has been surprising me lately. Their glassware is impeccable as is the people watching. They have a cafe too
Bell bottoms — It all started at the Super Bowl (<3 Kendrick), but I have to say, it’s sticking around for me. Both of these are vintage, and I haven’t decided on a great new pair.
Onggi — If I were reincarnated as a store, I would hope to be Onggi. If you’re a pickle, olive, sour kraut, or Japanese sauce lover then it’s your place. But it’s also so much more. The cafe in the back has some of the most inventive drinks I’ve seen and things like a kimchi cheddar corn souffle.
Manjul — This may already be an influencer photoshoot location, but the vibes I feel won’t condone that. I will say it’s great for computer work, writing or reading. No loud talkers or catch-ups were happening. The coffee didn’t wow me honestly, but they only had oat milk and I want to try their ~pour-over~.
Kayla Principato — It’s sort of like you’re adorable dog that you can’t possibly be mad at ever. Kayla is a real-life angel, with seriously infectious positivity. Her class at the Water Lounge is it. It’s definitely the prettiest studio in NY and worth the trek downtown. She does private reformer sessions too.
8. Isle of Us — It’s the Erewhon of the Upper East Side and their mushroom quiche x ginger lemonade is my order. The hot sauce gives Springbone a run for its money. Yum.
9. Mother’s Day Gift Idea — I know it’s really early, but my mom received this picture frame as a gift recently and won’t stop talking about it. You can text a link to anyone and they can add photos.
10. @thnxitsthrifted — Their collections skew a little Y2K btw, but I loved their bags and the shoe collection was very unique at a great price point. Follow them for pop-up info!!
10. Villager — Very cafe-heavy recs, I know. Change of space helps productivity. Their coffee is always rotating roasters and the owner makes all the ceramics (I wanted them all). Villager in Prospect Heights will be a great spring destination post-botanical gardens visit.
follow @keayk.cake for yum treats for people with dietary dissabilites :) March already feels so much brighter. Anyone else?
